Dr. Shawn Allen
Dermatology Specialists
A nationally recognized and respected cosmetic dermatologist and surgeon, Dr. Allen founded Dermatology Specialists with a unique focus: “…to create a place for both staff and patients to be seen and taken care of by compassionate and loving people. As the landscape changes for dermatology (and medicine more broadly), we want to be leaders in change for the better for our patients, community, and for each other.”
A skilled surgeon, after completing his residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Allen completed additional fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic surgery, cosmetic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. Tailoring treatments to suit the unique skin health goals of each patient, Dr. Allen creates superior cosmetic outcomes, and is a recognized by his peers as an expert in both managing skin cancers and performing cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Allen serves as an expert and consultant for national and international cosmetic skin care companies, travelling across the country and world to train other providers in a variety of highly specialized cosmetic procedures. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the University of Colorado’s Department of Dermatology, has published textbook chapters and articles in leading dermatology journals, and is a regularly invited national and international speaker and trainer on skin cancer, cosmetic and surgical techniques and laser procedures for dermatologic, plastic, facial plastic, oculoplastic, and laser surgeons across the world.
Andrea Cardenas APRN
Andrea Cárdenas is a foreign-trained doctor and licensed Nurse Practitioner, and aesthetic specialist dedicated to redefining beauty through a deeper, more integrative approach. With over a decade of experience in aesthetics, functional medicine, and hormone replacement therapy, her work is rooted in the belief that true beauty is a reflection of internal balance, health, and self-connection.
Born in Venezuela, she earned her medical degree at the age of 21 and completed her residency in Pediatrics at 23. She later expanded her expertise with a Master's degree in Anti-Aging and Orthomolecular Medicine, a certification as a Nutrition Coach, and a Fellowship in Dermatology — allowing her to bridge clinical medicine with advanced aesthetic care.
In 2016, she founded and successfully led a med spa in South Florida for over 9 years, building a loyal community of patients who valued her natural results, personalized care, and honest approach to beauty.
Her training includes working alongside internationally recognized leaders such as Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera, Dr. Arthur Swift, Prof. Sebastian Cotofana, and Beauty by Dr. Kay. A passionate educator and mentor, she has been featured on Univision, Telemundo, and Hola TV, and has been recognized by Forbes. She is also a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Agnes Medical Americas.
Today, she is the Director of Training for the Functional Aesthetics Lab — a concept-driven space founded on the belief that beauty is not a single treatment, but a deeply personal 360° experience — one that reflects how we feel, function, and live.
Dr. Alan Durkin
Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery
Dr. Alan J. Durkin is a double board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose career encompasses aesthetic surgery, surgical oncology, clinical research, physician education, and national leadership in aesthetic medicine. As the founder of Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and MedSpa in Vero Beach, Florida, he has developed a surgical practice specializing in facial rejuvenation, breast surgery, and complex revision procedures.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Durkin serves in surgical leadership at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, holds academic appointments at Florida State University and Nova Southeastern University, and serves as Chief Medical Officer of VIO Med Spa, a national aesthetic medicine organization. In 2026, he was appointed Chair of the Aesthetic Subcommittee within the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' Academic Affairs Council.
His scientific contributions include 24 PubMed-indexed publications, covering facial aesthetics, breast reconstruction, surgical oncology, and general surgery. He has also authored surgical technique materials distributed internationally, presented at national and international medical conferences, and participated in the development and clinical evaluation of aesthetic treatments used by physicians throughout the country.
At Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery, Dr. Durkin brings these experiences into the consultation room. His philosophy emphasizes patient education, sound surgical judgment, and a willingness to recommend less treatment when a more extensive procedure would provide little additional benefit.
